第１号 Mooshaus

古民家を使い継ぐ
まず、第１号として大和上市の吉野川を見下ろす地にMooshaus（苔の家）と名付けたプロジェクトをスタートさせました。
長年の雨漏りで部屋に美しい苔が自生している廃屋寸前の建物をどう蘇えさせるか。
築66年の旧家に使われていた木材の多くは明治33年（1900年）建築の「吉野木材銀行本店」のもので、大鋸での手仕事の跡や根継などの古材再利用の工夫が随所に見られます。
面白いことに、シロアリの被害は125年前の古材には少なく、当時の材の良さが伺えます。
この昭和の民家を、出来るだけ建物の良さを活かし自然素材と手仕事でどのように再生できるか、私たちの挑戦が始まりました。
予算の限りがある中での実践的研究の場としてMooshaus 2025 YOSHINO Projectは器プロジェクトとしてゆっくりと進めていきます。
How to revive a building on the brink of ruin, where years of leaks had allowed beautiful moss to grow wild within its rooms?
Much of the timber used in this 66-year-old house originally came from the “Yoshino Timber Bank Head Office”, built in 1900. Traces of hand-sawing and ingenious reuse techniques like root joints are visible throughout the reclaimed old timber.
Interestingly, termite damage was minimal in the 125-year-old timber, reflecting the quality of the original wood.
Our challenge began: how to revitalise this Shōwa-era house, preserving its inherent qualities as much as possible through natural materials and handcrafted work.
Within the constraints of our budget, the Mooshaus 2025 YOSHINO Project will proceed gradually as a utsuwa-project, serving as a practical research platform.
